The Trammock camp...........................

Luke's trampoline-hammock was a great success, and I think we couldn't have had better weather for chilling in the woods.

Wot Wozzit?

Most of us saw some of these hairy little characters - Woodman Pete tells me it is the caterpillar of the Pale Tussock moth.

Challenge the community

On a day when 16 year olds in Scotland will be voting to go their own way, we will meet our MP.  This could form the first part of the Community Challenge badge is to find out how an aspect of our community works.
Daniel Kawczynski is holding a public meeting on Thursday 18 September 7pm-9pm in the Callow Room, Minsterley Hall, Minsterley. We will go along to this as our Unit meeting this week - nice of him to hold it on a Thursday for us!) and ask him about what he is doing to support the things that matter to us in our community (wherever we define the borders of our community!).
I am expecting you to take an active part: some of you will be voting for or against him next year! Find out if you would like him to be your voice in our parliament! Let him know what matters to us!
Things we might ask him about might include:
What is happening to Youth Services in Shropshire?
Will we be paying for extra funding for Scotland if they vote to stay?
Why are 16 year old Scots considered responsible enough to vote when 16 year old Englishmen and women aren't?
What is the point of a democracy when unelected officials in Europe write our laws?
How much notice can an MP take of individuals in a constituency of 77000?
How fair is it for students to have to take on debt of £30000-£50000 before they can start their careers and isn't this contributing to the loss of social mobility?
...

What matters to you?

Phil can help with transport for a few of you and I can take a couple too, but it is not much further than puggletown so hope to see you there! Give us a call if you need help with transport. Wear identifiable quantities of uniform (Orange hoodie/necker/...)

Rifle squad practices

I've phoned suad members about times for a first training session for Sun 14 September at Leaton Hall Range (although quite a few were answerphone messages so check your messages!)
Sorry it ended up short notice...
Here is the form we discussed! See you all (hopefully!) tomorrow. Remember high sugar levels are bad for shooting so no fizzy drinks or chocolate for 48 hrs before practice sessions.

Bickley forms......................

Please let Phil have the permission form and the food allergy/tent thingy by next Friday so you get fed and have somewhere to sleep!

Fun with flags

It's a kind of 'back to basics' sort of thing... What we always do at the start of term...
See you all tonight! Molski has drafted an indicative prog so we are good to go with the new term! 8:05-9:35, bring a head torch unless you've been eating plenty of carrots...

Archery practice...

Shropshire Borders Scouts Archery Team will be having a practice session this Sunday (14th September) between 1.00 and 4.00 at the Bowbrook Archery Field.

As always this is open to everyone and run as a drop-in so you don't have to do the full 3 hours if you have other commitments, and it costs just £2.  Don't forget - the more sessions you attend the better chance you have of being selected for the squad we take to the Nationals next year!

If you haven't tried archery before then come along and give it a go!
Any questions call Phil on 01939 260391.

Drum Corps - Exciting Prospects.........

Drum Corps re-starts this Thursday (the 4th September) and Roger has some exciting news about the future of the Drum Corps.  He would like to speak to all parents and guardians of Corps members for 10 minutes to brief them at 6.50.
Also don't forget the Corps is performing at Maesbury canal festival from 10.30 on Saturday (the 6th).

The photo above shows Roger (2nd row on the left) at his 60th birthday celebrations in 1935.
