Coming down

We meet at the hut to kick off our bid for a free holiday in Paris!
The rocket spec requires us to design a two parachute recovery for Eggbert (the second). This is basic engineering... see this for example...

I have made a super-miniature altimeter...

...that we could use to control the deployment and control the flight time, but first we need to determine basic performance parameters for parachute specs without freezing to death... (it will be 'nuff cold in the hut and I don't want to spend all evening outside dropping parachutes from precarious heights whilst I freeze up…)

on target...

We shot well at the county rifle championships last year so need to do well to defend our reputation (and medals!). We will have a practice for our Unit meeting on Thursday 24 Jan in my barn at Leaton Hall and then send off our entry for the competition which will be at the National Indoor Shooting Centre at Aldersley on Sunday 3rd February

Please book a session in the Eventbrite below and let me know if you are available for selection for the County Championships. If there are lots of you signed up I will split the meeting into two sessions but for now I am assuming we can run it at the normal meeting times... But do check the blog and facebook group chat.

If you are going to shoot you need to bring the legally required consent form as usual!

Thursday 17 January 2019

...and it begins!

First meeting back is tonight, Thursday 17 Jan at the usual time and place.
It 'planning' as is traditional. As a head start, we plan to have a team in the county rifle championship on 3 Feb and we plan to enter the UKRoc rocketry championship (as a DofE skill). We will do some shooting team selection soon, but I need to enter a rocketry team soon so please sign up if you want to be a part of it...

Slipy-slidey before we begin...

No meeting on 10 Jan as usual (we don't meet first week back at school as you are always too excited and out of control before the iron discipline of the Corbet kicks back in...) But we can entertain you this week! Before we officially start the year! (happy new year btw!)

The annual 'in search of snow' hike is this Sunday! It is often one of the best hikes of the year (but only if you are properly kitted out! It is a chance to learn how to use an Ice Axe and crampons ... and get ready for the Scotland Winter Mountain Walking camp

...but only if we find the slippy stuff!

The
prospects aren't  looking very good this year but I've said this before and then we've found some...

You need to have the right gear (or ask me now to borrow what you need!) but SSGMG give you axes (!) and crampons if we find the right stuff.
Here's the info form - give me a call if you are up for it! I can't go on this one the rest of the gang will (gutted as I need to walk off a few xmas puds…) (its also a good way to get your DofE fitness checked off if you come regularly (and get fit))

Otherwise, we start back on 20 Jan when you've got over the hyperactive excitement of going back to school!
