Bickley chillin' camp.............

Amazing how tiring it can be just sitting around in the woods, eating, whittling, napping then eating.........

Efficient process

Just enough - just in time - it's the future of manufacturing but we were there first with our prog planning!
Sorry there is not much notice but we have had to postpone the island survival night and bring forward climbing, so we meet on Thursday 21 May at 8:30pm-9:30pm at Oswestry Climbing Centre
I'll make the blog prettier and add a pic later but hope to see you there!
Please bring a letter with emergency contact info by way of consent form - I'll put an official one up later but so long as it has a parental signature and contact/medical info it will be fine

Ah! Here's the pretty stuff!
A consent form and a pic of us doing it a year or so ago... Hmmm... he's just lying around amongst the lumpy things on the floor (those are trip hazards those are! Better update my risk assessment!)

Shooting opportunity

It's the start of the SBSMG mountain season so I hope lots of you will be with me in the hills on Sunday, but if you are not, there's an opportunity to visit Ellesmere College and meet Tom Rylands - their shooting coach. He's also the Wales target shooting development officer and keen to help us and promote shooting in N Shrops (he is helping coach Charlie in Air rifle and also .22 rifle shooting).

You have to register for their open day at www.ellesmere.com for the day and go along 1-4pm. They'll try and enrol you if you're not careful, but just tell them you have no money and want to see Tom and have a go at the target shooting!

Tom has also offered to let us go along to one of his sessions later this term when we start training the squad for Bisley so if you can't make it on Sunday, we'll probably go and visit later in the term, but if you are keen to join our rifle squad or do target shooting for DofE then it's a good opportunity to try shooting in a different (maybe better?) range than Leaton Hall Barn!

Uh oh!

Your Prog committee wanted to do a PGL led activity so we have to meet early (the PGL peeps aren't allowed to play out late...)
We will meet promptly (please!) at 6:30pm on Thurs 14 May and be finished by 8:00pm (so still plenty of time for revision!)

National Scout Car Races 3-5th July 2015

We are planning to take both of our cars to the National Scout Car Race Day, this year at the Jubilee Gardens in Blackpool. Each car will need 4 drivers, two for each must be under 16 on the 4th July.
There are a number of races, for teams and individuals, so it'll be a full day.
To make a weekend of it we'll go up on the Friday night and camp two nights. On the Sunday we'll spend the day at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
Planning is at at early stage but I need to get the car entries in before the 20th May so book a place early.
I'm expecting the weekend to cost £55, that will include a Boreatton Racing Tee-Shirt, if someone will design one, and an unlimited ride pass for the Pleasure Beach....

Unfortunately for some, It clashes with your DofE hike so check the date carefully before you commit.

On The Trail Again

Here's the info for the start of the SBSMG season - we often do our intro hike at the Long Mynd and encourage new scouts to come along and see if they are up for joining the mountain group. It will be a full day hiking (like JOTT) and we can talk to them about kit etc in a less challenging environment than some of the hikes we do later in the year.

We always have a good time!

This is a clip of the end of  the Long Mynd hike a couple of years ago - hmmm... I'd better bring the Landy if it's sunny...

I'm going so please you can let me know instead of Richard, and we can sort out travel arrangements - I'll be able to pick up and drop off at a more convenient place. Hope to see a good bunch of you there! Especially those that joined us at Jott!

JOTT

We going on JOTT on Saturday, with our scouts. This is a worldwide event. Check it out here http://jott.org.uk/registrations/2015.html - we are the ONLY group in Shropshire and you get a Badge (remember those?) - cool uniform badge!
Details are here  http://boreattonscouts.blogspot.co.uk/2015/04/boreatton-does-jamboree-on-trail.html
On Facebook, check out the JOTT Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/jotthike/

Don't forget the permission form and please make sure you have the right kit. If you are struggling Alan has spare kit so give him a ring BEFORE Saturday.
If you are definitely coming, can you confirm by facebook. Of course you can just turn up on the day but they won't be waiting for you!

The scouts are all little and don't know what hikes are about so we have to make sure they realise that it is fun - I thought we could do a geocache, take trangias and cook some nice stuff, bring a kite,...???

On Target!

Hopefully!

On THURSDAY 7 MAY, times as per eventbrite booking form below, at Leaton Hall.

It's time to practice to get ready for Bisley once more, and to remind you how to shoot straight! It is a good option for skill development if you are doing DofE, or if you are a member of the National Squad, a good chance to volunteer as an instructor to help teach a skill! We are the best scout rifle squad in Shropshire and last year one of the new explorers won the National Championship main event Rifle competition (she looks quite pleased!). We can show you how to shoot properly and if you enjoy it, you can come with the squad to Bisley in October to defend our trophies!

We have to split the squad into two details and will shoot at my range at Leaton Hall Farm. Numbers are a bit limited so book early!

Also, this is an activity that is regulated by law as well as scout procedures. You MUST get your parents to complete the consent form as a legal requirement for taking part! No form=no gun

Drum Corps..................

2 things for the Drum Corps;
