The Bickley Coppice Nearly The End Of Summer Camp...............

Have you been to Bickley Coppice before?  Every year we run a weekend camp there for the Scouts which is a little bit unusual!  They cook all their meals on wood fires, learn to carve and to make fires, saw and cut wood with an axe, and build a bivouac and sleep in it (if they want to).  This year we have opened the camp up for Explorers as well.  You can be as active as you want or just sit poking the fire all day - no pressure to do anything, just enjoy the last of the Summer sunshine in a beautiful wood.

This is a very laid back Scout camp and most Troops don't have the opportunity to do these activities, so if you would like to make the most of the last of the summer weather then sign up!!!

Feed me!

OK - this week is a bit fragmented as various groups get their briefings prior to rushing off around the world!

Tuesday - Those signed up for the Pike's Pool Summer camp meet at Bicton Village Hall for a BBQ get to know each other and general briefing planning session for camp. I will provide some sausies and rolls or equivalent, Richard will provide Fire! And you can bring extra BBQ stuff is you are especially hungry! Start at 7:30pm and end about 9:30pm.

Tuesday - Those signed up for DofE bronze expedition you have your pre-expedition check at the same event so as above but also bring all your kit packed (except food which you prob have not bought and tents and trangias which I will bring for you. Adrian will meet you and ask you about nav/food/first aid/aims/planning (bring a guitar Ben!) etc and sign you off as good to go! I'll be doing the same for Adrian's group Matt Reuben Shane... et al. You know them if you come on Mountain Group hikes and they will be a good group to camp with - we should get them to do some backing vocals on the music vid!
Here's a consent form for your expedition:

Thursday - 1 week before Mongolia! Come with your kit to my house for a pre expedition BBQ with concerned parents if they want. Again I will have some saussies and rolls for a BBQ starting at 7:30pm to 9:30pm so welcome to bring extra foody stuff, or just come and chill and eat saussies and we'll check out kit and plans, and give parents a last chance to ask questions...

Thursday - everyone else! Come too to my BBQ as above and laugh at explorers with ridiculously huge rucksacks for hikes into high mountain passes in torrential rain! Bring some music and enjoy the summer! (I'm sure you would be welcome at the Tues meeting too if you want!)

Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah

My oh my, what a wonderful day!

And early too! We start at the hut at 7:45 if poss! It is probably OK if you really cant get there before 8:05 but try and be early!

There is also an extra meeting at Bicton Village Hall  on 17 June at 8:00 I think (may be earlier - I need to get Richard to confirm) for our DofE bronze group to be met and approved by Adrian from Rae Valley (who is their assessor) and also for everyone going on the Pike's Pool Summer Camp (ie the summer camp that is not Mongolia)

It is planned as a coordination meeting but with a BBQ too so we should take some food - lets discuss the plan on Thursday - and if anyone else wants to just go and enjoy the BBQ, I'm sure that's fine too :)

Drum Corps ....... Thursday 12th June

Drum Corps will start at 6.30 and finish just before 7.30 this Thursday.

Climbing day!

It's the Special Boreatton Scout Mountain Group (SBSMG) climbing day on Sunday - a chilled out day with the mountain group and no need to walk for 6 hours! Just relaxing, lunching and climbing! Let me or Pete know if you are coming and we'll coordinate transport etc!
Here's the info and a couple of pics from last weekend when the explorers passed through the site on the DofE.
All kit supplied and no need to pay petrol if you are travelling in the Fartsac!

no - not tree climbing! (and arn't you supposed to have ropes and harness and helmet to be that high up?)

Climb these!

NSARC!

It's that time of year again - we need to have trials for the Boreatton Rifle squad for the nationals! This weeks meeting will be at my rifle range (aka barn) and at different times. If you are in the drum corps, you will have to book the later session and it will be OK if you are 10-15 mins late... I expect we will finish 10-15 mins later than the ticket says...

Here's the ticket eventbrite thingy to sign up with!

And here's a form to fill in!
