A taijitu for Earthhour

Well that worked in the end! Here we are making our olive oil lamp, tree powered, light installation for EarthHour (don't try this at home unless you have good fire protection!)

olive oil lamp

As Brexit approaches (or recedes) one might ask what have the Romans (or indeed any other Europeans) done for us?
Well as Earth Hour approaches and we realise we need a green and non-electric light source, we could do worse than turn to tree power using a traditional Greco-Roman technology...

These handy lamps cost about 2.3p so we can make lots and construct a green and eco-friendly light installation to celebrate #EarthHour2019 (this Saturday) and commemorate our shared European Civilisation whilst we can :)

Meet as usual at the hut.

building bridges

In the spirit of our prime ministers recent performance bringing the nation back together, we will be building bridges!

An important part of our Bickley Bear Hunt this summer too if we are to safely cross the thick oozy mud! There's plenty of that at PGL so we'd better hope our construction skills dont drop us in it! (maybe bring emergency change of clothes? Also bring a head torch as we'll be building in the dark (at least we won't see the drop!)

Scouts used to do this lots but I dont think they've been keeping up with the practice of late...

hmmm... maybe they weren't that well practiced then either!

In recovery

We need to get our rocket design back on track...

...so the rocketry team plan to meet on Monday 18 March. Some of the team could do early and some could do late so we'll run a drop-in style meeting at Leaton Hall between 6 and 8:30 - don't come for all of it necessarily but come and move things forward!

loving the (low) light

It's nearly our last chance to have a night hike this year!

We will meet at SJ3930022170 at UTC20:05 and capture elusive photons...
Bring head torch and phone and wear weather appropriate gear to survive the expedition.

We will end up at the hut at the usual time 9:30 (I hope!)

...oops! I think that was a crash! We forgot the parachutes!

Rockets and Tech

At our last meeting I said we would have an extra meeting on 11 March at my house 7-8:30.
Thats tonight! Sorry I have not posted sooner - been busy shooting/hiking/living... hope you can still come! Our recovery system is still looking incomplete...
