Too little too late

Finally the government builds a power station!Hinkley Point C
...but it's too late to fill the energy gap as we run out of gas, close the existing nuclear power stations as they reach the end of their lives, and shut the big coal power stations...
Being prepared, we will be making candles to be able to see through the next decade :)

Normal place, normal time, etc

Grovel Grovel Sob Sob...........

Two apologies!

Firstly to anyone who tried to attend archery practice at Sundorne - the meeting was cancelled because of a lack of archery Leaders, but because of a bit of confusion over emails I wasn't aware of this until too late.  Sorry folks.

Secondly, St Briavels Youth Hostel camp was due to happen on the 22nd to 24th of November.  We have had difficulty in getting enough spaces for us all so have had to change the dates to 31/1/14 to 2/2/14.  We will be going in force with the Scouts so this is the first available date with room for about 40 of us (got to be our biggest camp ever!!!).  We thought about going somewhere else but decided to stick with St Briavels as this place is ace.

Archery practice (makes you look weird)

Pete took this great action shot of me at the last archery competition - good eh?

Seriously, archery is a great sport and we at Boreatton have a long tradition of taking part in the Scout National Archery Championships every year.  Learn to shoot or brush up your skills this Sunday between 2 and 4.  This is a drop-in session so you don't have to be there for the full 2 hours.  All equipment is provided and the District Archery Leaders will be there to coach you.  All for the bargain price of £2.

Meet at Sundorne School, Corndon Crescent, Shrewsbury, SY1 4LL.

Brrrrrr..........

It was a bit chilly so well done and a big thank you to the Explorers who turned out for the Church service on Sunday.  Despite the terrors of public speaking and rock fondling (you had to be there!) we represented Boreatton well!

Thank you.

Thanks to Phil-ipa for the photos!

Greek fire

I thought of calling the post 'Great Balls of Fire' but the song is too naff and it doesn't matter anyway...
Woo-hoo! The trebuchets worked well (ish) but the glowing water bombs were ace for night-water-bomb-fights and the siege engine launch Boreatton Fire bombs were awesome - shock and awe...

Glowing water bombs! ready to launch!

Luke's Surprise Night

Makes a change from Al's surprise night!
But actually we're sticking close to the prog... I think the plan is to weaponise the famous Istambul Blue Throwie...

We meet at the hut usual time etc...

Look out!

The SSBMG are about...

A Boreatton Scout looking out over the Berwyns, long long ago

...in the Berwyns again! - hope to see you there! The weather forecast says we might get an icy blast from Siberia (yippee!) so its important to have the right gear - I have spares in scout sizes of most stuff so let me know if you want to borrow anything!

Let me know if you want to come asap - I'll ring round regulars if I get time, but if you are new or just want to be helpful - give me a call or message! I need a consent form too - you can find one in the useful forms link on the scout blog (just edit the year!) and I think Pete or Phil have put one on the scout blog too...

I'll definitely be going - I need to blow the cobwebs out of my mountain gear!

The Great Boreatton Bake-off

Medieval Feast-Serving The Peacock-15th Century

OK - Ready! Steady!! BAKE!!!
We will bake for points, prizes, glory, and to feed me!
Three courses in 90 short minutes! I will provide basic ingredients and you can haggle for extra ingredients to make your baking special :)
DofE camp will never be the same! Please bring three bowls for mixing and some utensils suitable for three baked courses. We will bake in teams of two or three and see whether we can cast off the shackles of camp cooking to recreate extravagant feasts fit for a medieval despot (that's me).  I will specify the name of the dish, but feel free to sneak in extra ingredients and see if you can enhance the dish. (Bonus points for incorporating insects into your recipe!)
