Rifle squad times

It's nearly Sunday! The rifle squad training sessions will be at the same time and place as last week except half an hour later (OK so not the same time, but you know what I mean...)
Scout squad 5:00 to 6:30, Explorers 3:30 to 5:00.

sticking to the prog...

Sticking little arrows to show changes that is!

It gets dark earlier now so we need to do the giant swing thing early in term, and also before the PGL leaders all fly south for the winter!
We will swing by the giant swings THIS WEEK 26 Sept and even though we are doing it early in term, we still need to meet earlier than usual - We will therefore meet at 6:05-7:35. Sorry that this clashes with Drum Corps (but they should be able to cope without us! in any event, we'll do the drummers first so they can get back and drum and get out of hauling the rest of us up!). It also means that we will arrive at a Beaver time... we don't actually need the hut so lets just gather outside near the hut and avoid trampling beaverlings underfoot if poss!

Rifle Squad Training

I know we don't get much sleep in our camp but do try and stay awake whilst shooting!

We will have regular training sessions for the Rifle Squad (selected last July)  between now and the National Air Rifle Championships, which will lead to the Master of Arms badge and also earn NSRA awards.
This week, I propose to have explorers come at 3:00-4:25 on 22 September to the Leaton Hall Range and will be having scoutsin the squad from 4:30-6:00. If you cannot come to this week's session, let me know and we will see what we can sort out, and also make sure we have convenient times going forward. There is a special form for rifle shooting that you must, by law, complete.

crossing over...

It's river crossing night tomorrow - cold dark and wet! Great!
We'll do all the scouty stuff just like the good old days with sausies, fire and mud (yum!)

I thought this would be a good bridge?
...but higher, darker, colder, muddier, smellier, scarier....

Come prepared to swim!

Whilst it is still awesomely hot and sunny!

The scouts are joining in the Shropshire Historic Churches charity cycle ride on Saturday 14th September and explorers are welcome to join in.
We'll be leaving Pete's house in West Felton at 10am and aim to be back at 6pm. We only have to cycle 25 miles for the badge but in previous years the weather has been fantastic so we've been distracted by playing in the ford, eating ice cream, the BMX track in Kinnerley etc.
You must book a place so I know who's coming and can make sure we have enough leaders. As it's sponsored you'll need to get some sponsors too. You can download the sponsor form as a pdf directly from the organisers, it'll be easier to print than the pictures I have to use for the blog.
http://www.shropshirehct.org.uk/RideandStride/Forms/Sponform13.pdf

You must have a safe working bike, tyres blown up, two working brakes etc and as always with scout cycling events a well fitting helmet is mandatory.

Back to basics, back to Outer Mongolia

It's traditional! We'll basically muck about (that's what we always do isn't it?) - I'll try and book a sports barn at PGL so we can muck about energetically without flattening the hut!

But before that, we need to get started with the Mongolia-Russia expedition fundraising! Explorers wanting to go exploring next summer, and parents, need to meet at 7:30pm for an update and appointment of explorers and parents fundraising committee, and to pay their deposit so I can book flights before the price doubles! Otherwise it's a long way by Yak!

A prog!

Don't think we've had one of these before!
Here's a draft prog on the blog from your planning committee... still to do tweaks etc but it'll be a bit liKe this!

Planning to plan the planning meeting...

Boreatton and Bicton explorers on the Beach with Theodore

Summer camp was great, and getting everyone together was an opportunity to plan what to do over the coming year, so we put it off until last thursday and then Al ran out of time and didn't put anything on the blog... so we are in our usual position of a last minute planning session, just before term!
Our planning committee will meet at Al's house on Sunday 8th Sept at 4pm (after Monza!) - I'm sure you've all given them lots of great ideas! (hmmm.... - still time though...)
