Flaming alcohol

No! Not unhealthy dangerous cocktails - Trangia cooking! We will do our own mini-DofE (Rusty-old-iron DofE instead of the more precious Bronze/Silver/Gold which requires a 30min travelling, cook an unwholesome meal, no nights camping, and no volunteering skill or fitness! )

Bring something unwholesome to cook on a DofE stove and we'll cook it at the end of our night hike!

Shropshire Rifles practices for the Intercounty competition

The squad are practising at Leaton Hall Ranges (sounds better than 'in my barn') so here is a map/details for those that haven't been before!

The address is Leaton Hall Farm, Leaton, nr Bomere Heath, Shrewsbury SY4 3AP
The map below shows where my house is - note that satnav will take you to the opposite end of our road and drop you at a small Industrial Estate - we are at the other end of that road by the T-junction with a small plant hire company EAGLE in another barn.
My phone no. is 01939 291352

Please also print out and bring the consent to shoot form - you can save the image below and then print. This is a legal requirement.

Uncertainty and close horizons...

UPDATE!
This is the plan - we will relocate the 16 March mtg to Pontesbury with our Rea Valley friends and help them with DofE prep things and paint our rocket in a quiet corner if we are just getting in the way...

Hmmm...  there are only a dozen of us most nights and tomorrow, we have at least 4 going to Rea Valley to prep DofE stuff and one of us in France so we are down to a max of 5 for the Assault Course... The Rocketry Team thought it might be better to see if we could all go and visit Rea Valley, and I could meet the DofE Silver group and the rest of you amuse the others (non-DofE explorers) with some rocket prep?

However, we would have to agree it with them and it was too late to call so I'll have to email and check and then let everyone know rather last minute!

Sorry!

However its only 4 of you I need to contact last minute... so watch this space!

Meanwhile... those that are going because they are doing DofE need to be at the Congregational Church Hall in Pontesbury  :

Minsterley Road

7:45pm with the forms and cheques! (unless you have already paid me!)

County Rifle Comp - updated details

Here's more detailed directions -

For those unfamiliar with “Parklands”, the postcode centre for TF9 2LF, which will be used by most satnavs, is about 50m South of the Parklands entrance.
A more precise statement of Parklands location than TF9 2LF for use with satnav co-ordinates (or a paper OS map) is as follows:
Entrance is on West side of road at OS Grid SJ6548228708. Roadside signs will be on display.
WGS84 co-ordinates are N 52.87475, W (-) 2.51406.

Emergency contact on the day is via John D. His correct mobile (typo on original details emailed out) is 07940 718924.

Do not forget your permission to shoot form!!!
and finally, here's an updated squadding -

Perfect Flite

Here's the altimeter readout from our rocket flight!

... and here's a picture of one of its earliest flights...

on a C6-3 motor it reached 792 feet over a 30 second flight (but without an egg...)

County Shooting competition and County squad selection

I've posted details of practice for the scouts, but it would also help if we have a bit of practice too, and you need to have the official entry form and shooting consent. There are only 5 of you in the squad so probably easiest to coordinate practice when we meet for mountain biking on Saturday, or by phone? This is what I put on the scout blog so later on Sat or Sunday would work?
Don't forget the consent form which is your competition entry!
Those that are coming to Scotland will need a postal entry so I'll get that from John D, and also for anyone else that needs it!

Here's the plan! Not that I'm overly competitive...

(note the cups and shields!)

...but if we intend to win, we should have a practice session before the competition!
There are 10 or 11 of us so we should split into 2 practice sessions. I will suggest that the explorers arrange with me directly and that scouts try to come along at:

4:30-6:00pm on Saturday 11 February

Meet at my house (Leaton Hall Farm, near Bomere Heath - its the farmhouse on the T-junction where the road past Leaton Industrial Estate, with the railway level crossing, meets the Berwick Road (Baschurch to Shrewsbury Road).

If there is any problem about times or places, give me a call on 01939 291352 or 07895 140034 and we will sort it out :)

We shoot in my barn and it is likely to be cold so wrap up warm! (Think Gokyo Ri! - the explorers summer camp this year!)

You will need to have avoided fizzy drinks, have eaten at lunchtime and bring some water to drink.

You also need to give legal consent (not just scouty forms - it is a legal requirement under the firearms act...

The county competition details are as follows:

The 2017 County Shooting Competition (Air Rifle and Air Pistol) for Scouts, Explorer Scouts and adult members will be held over the weekend 18th -19th February at Parklands, Rose Hill Road, Stoke Heath TF9 2LF and will comprise the following classes:

Our squadding details are:

Scouts are provisionally allocated entries 5-9  (Sunday) and explorers 1-4 (Saturday)
We also have an option of two spare places shooting Saturday morning and Sunday morning if that helps!

On yer bike!

...or should I say we are going (to climb on a) cold turkey!

There is no meeting at the scout hut on Thursday this week...

Instead, two of our Cycling enthusiasts have organised Mountain Biking at Llandeglas meeting at 11:00am in the Llandeglas car park on Saturday 11 February and finishing up around 2pm at the Bacon Bap and Hot Choc shop there :)

You need to meet there with a bike with gears and working brakes and a cycle helmet, and a consent form (I'll put it here soon!) Dress for the cold and wet!
