beginnings and endings

We run DofE alongside the prog and it sometimes needs smaller groups to do things. We have a group doing their expedition, some wanting to do a practice expedition, and some needing to complete the electronic bits to finalise their award (hurrah!)
This means I need to either clone myself and the hut, or split us up this week!
On Tuesday 18 June the group planning their expedition to Brow Farm will meet at Leaton Hall 8:00 to 9:30 to complete their plan
On Tuesday 18 June the group wanting to do a practice expedition will meet at Leaton Hall 8:00 to 9:30 to make some less examinable ad hoc plans so when things go wrong they realise that having a plan is a good thing (if they are like the earlier groups... but hey maybe they will plan their practice expedition!)
On Thursday 20 June the group that have completed everything and did their expedition along the Offa's Dyke Way but lost their eDoE IDs and evidence will come to Leaton Hall and try and get everything sorted out so they can get their award!
It's at my place as I have better wifi and mapping etc than the hut...

Another chance

...to get high!

Don't forget it's the SSGMG Climbing day on Sunday, and it's going to be nice and sunny! It's always a nice chilled day and we spend quite a lot of time hanging around (on a climbing or abseil rope of course!). What the kit list has missed off this time is:

...cool shades, hat that shades the back of the neck, suncream, picnic...

Let me know by Friday and we will probably make our own arrangements to get there (and grab the extra half hour of sleep!). As usual, SSGMG activities are free to Boreatton.

Get High

Hah! Finally managed to book this - there was a general reluctance to get up early, so I have booked it for the Wednesday in the Hols - we can set off at a civilized 11am or so and have a leasurely flight around the tree tops at the Get Wet adventure Company - the highest high ropes in the country! (they say) with a zip wire t get down - Wizzzzzard!
Book a place now as I will give away spare places to older scouts and explorers we know from elsewhere after our meeting tomorrow...

Expediting expeditions

It's half way through term and we still havn't planned any DofE expeditions! They're fun and challenging and you get awards too! 
I've agreed with Richard that he will assess you (i.e. you need to survive the expedition!) so now we need to plan the route etc. So on Thursday, come if you want to plan an expedition, plan a practice expedition, help someone else plan an expedition! And come prepared! (ideas/dates/maps...)
I am trying to book the high ropes which is proving surprisingly tricky, but it looks most likely to be Weds 29th May - should be a nice half day break in exam revision for those in the middle of the exam season, or just a nice half day if you are not!

Summer hiking

Its a new year (for the Mountain Group) We do a nice easy intro hike this month, on Sunday 19th May, to get the new season underway and blow the cobwebs from our kit before a summer programme with climbing and Snowdon (Hurrah!). And it's going to be sunny!
It's great fun and we always have a good gang from Boreatton. Sorry the posting is a bit late...

Back to basics

I always thought that the basic elements worked as a scoutty theme so, given that we failed to plan in the planning night, I've picked two as a temporary stopgap for the onset of summer...
